Bhutan International Marathon – A Race Through the Heart of the Himalayas

Held annually in Punakha, the Bhutan International Marathon is a journey through breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and the spirit of Gross National Happiness. Scheduled for March 1, every year this event draws runners from around the world to experience Bhutan in its most intimate and exhilarating form.

Participants can
choose between:

  • Full Marathon (42 km): A scenic route with 50% hard-packed dirt trails and 50% paved roads, winding through villages, forests, and riversides.
  • Half Marathon (21 km): A condensed adventure with views of Khamsum Yulley Temple, Mo Chhu River, and Punakha Valley.

Highlights include:

  • Crossing the iconic Pho Chhu suspension bridge
  • Finishing at the majestic Punakha Dzong
