Detailed Itinerary
Your two-day trek begins with a short 20-minute drive to a point just above Talung village, at 2,996m (9,830 ft). The trail starts gently, leading you through meadows often blanketed in blooming primulas and dotted with grazing yaks—particularly in spring and early summer.
After approximately 1.5 hours of easy ascent, you cross two small bridges and arrive at a fork in the trail. Be cautious here: the left path, though broader and more visible, leads toward the Tibetan border. Instead, take the right-hand trail marked ‘Saga La’. From this point, it’s a steeper climb of another 1.5 hours to reach the Saga La Pass at 3,597m (11,801 ft).
At the top, you’ll find a sheltered canopy—an ideal lunch stop. On a clear day, the views are exceptional, offering dramatic vistas of Mt. Chomolhari (7,326m / 24,035 ft) and the elegant Mt. Jitchu Drake (6,662m / 21,857 ft).
From the pass, take the left-hand descent to Dongney Tsho / Chhoeduphu, treading carefully as the path can be slippery when wet and involves crossing two streams.
Your overnight stay is in a small hamlet where a renovated traditional farmhouse serves as the centerpiece of a luxury camp, complete with spacious tents and en suite bathrooms—a rare comfort in such a remote alpine setting.
Overnight: Chhoeduphu Deluxe Camp
Optional Extension:
For those seeking more adventure, the trek can be extended by two days to continue toward Nyingungla and Chelela Pass.
